Governor Proclaims Statewide Open Fire Prohibition

Due to the severe drought conditions across the state, the Governor’s Office issued a prohibition of open fires and smoking in and near all woodlands. The fire ban came into effect on Monday, September 22, 2025 and will continue until weather conditions improve, likely well into fall.

Stratford residents and property owners can now get their burn permits directly at the Selectboard Office during regular office hours (Monday-Thursday 9 am to 3:30 pm). In addition, you may contact Ron Scott Jr, who is acting as the town’s new Fire Warden, by calling him at 603-991-3191 (you can leave a message). In both cases, the permit is free.

As of May 2025, burn permits for Stratford can also be conveniently obtained online, anytime. They will be issued through this link:

You’ll need a printer to print out your permit and a credit or debit card to pay the $5.50 service fee.
