Winter came early to the North Country this year, halting the remaining work at the Backstreet River Park. The last section of the walking path, snaking behind the ball field and connecting the park to the Boat Launch site, is still waiting for completion. Depending on the snow cover and frost situation, it may or may not get finished this season.
In any case, the first sleds have been spotted at the park and its time to start thinking about snow shoeing rather than walking!
The official ribbon cutting is scheduled for next spring, tentatively in mid-May 2026. Plans are in the works for a fun day of activities to celebrate the completion of the improved park. We’ll keep you posted here, of course.
