Under the new State budget (HB2), New Hampshire plans to end mandatory annual safety inspections for most passenger vehicles. However, this change does not take effect until January 31, 2026. Until that date, safety inspections and inspection stickers are still required by law in New Hampshire.
This means, any vehicle due for a registration renewal in January 2026 still has to get inspected to be legal.
The new law applies only to passenger vehicles. Commercial vehicles such as buses and trucks still require annual inspections, per federal guidelines.
