Work on renovating and upgrading the Backstreet River Park is moving along. Last week, both the basketball and new pickleball courts were repaved. The new pavement now has to cure for about 4 weeks before the final surface layer and striping can be added.
Meanwhile, the new playground area is starting to take shape. The swing set is in place and this week, the remaining equipment will be put together. The entire area around the new playground will be lined with a soft rubber surface for more safety.

Backstreet River Park along the Connecticut River is undergoing a major revitalization this summer. Plans include a new, modern playground with pick-nick area, remaking the tennis court into a pickleball court, a new basketball court, and a multi-use path around the whole park area following the river bank. A designated parking area is also in the works. The playground and pick-nick area will be fully accessible via a paved path.
The Backstreet River Park project is largely funded through state and federal grants, with part of the matching funds coming from two regional Tillotson Funds.
